Maria Marino provides the vivid colours of her working day-time landscapes into the night with her pastel nocturnes. See far more of her get the job done (both working day and evening) in our Voices of Practical experience post. We have requested some of our favourite artists to show us illustrations of their night time time paintings and to notify us a minor bit about their processes in this sequence of Nocturne Notes.
Marino shared with us these two illustrations of her exuberant, expressive pastel nocturne paintings. She informed us that her aim is in “catching the secret of that particular time of night”

“In the conclude, it is about having the viewer to come to feel
fairly than to realize, to check out fairly than to take a look at,
and to appreciate it somewhat than to go it by.”
Maria Marino
In our fascination with how the eye sees and then interprets the environment all over us to our brains, we have observed it specially exciting to review how the eye sees at evening. Research for the text “Nocturnes” and “Eyesight” in the lookup bar to read through a lot of attention-grabbing article content about the science of looking at at night time and the artwork of painting at night time, or, download our ebook, Nocturnes – A Primer on Night Painting.
